Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the Grammy-nominated rock band 3 Doors Down, has died, months after he announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. He was 47.

The band said in a statement on Saturday that Arnold “passed away completely, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer”.

3 Doors Down formed in Mississippi in 1995 and four years later received a Grammy nomination for the breakout hit Kryptonite. Arnold wrote the song in math class when he was 15 years old, according to the band statement.

Their debut album, The Better Life, sold more than 6m copies. A second Grammy nomination came in 2003, for the song When I'm Gone.

The band said Arnold “helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotional direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners”.

3 Doors Down released six albums, most recently Us and the Night in 2016. Singles included Loser, Duck and Run and Be Like That, which appeared on the soundtrack for the 2001 film American Pie 2.

While promoting their fifth album, Time of My Life, Arnold said he considered himself lucky to have carved out a career in the music business.

“If you do something as long as we've done it, you can't help but get better at it, you know?” Arnold told the Associated Press in 2011.

In 2017, 3 Doors Down performed at the first inauguration concert of Donald Trump.

Arnold announced his cancer diagnosis last May, saying clear cell renal carcinoma had metastasized to his lungs. The band was forced to cancel a summer tour.

“His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on,” the band said.

An incredible self-own In 1936, John Scott, son of the late Guardian owner and legendary editor CP Scott, did something unheard of for a media heir: he gave up his stake for the greater good.

After inheriting the newspaper, Scott renounced all financial benefit – bar his salary – in the Guardian (worth £1m at the time and around £62m today) and passed ownership over to the newly formed Scott Trust. The Trust will evolve to have one key mission: to secure the financial and editorial independence of the Guardian in perpetuity.

That means the Guardian can't be bought. Not by private equity, not by a conglomerate, and definitely not by a billionaire looking for a political mouthpiece.

Our means independence we can say what we want, report on who we want, challenge who we want, and stand up at a time when others are sitting down.

But this unique model also means we depend on readers like you from Vietnam to help fund our work. If you would rather the news you read was the result of decisions made by journalists and editors, not shareholders or ultra-wealthy tech bros, then, well, you know what to do:

The explanation, offered to reporters on Air Force One, was the first acknowledgment that Trump himself had screened at least part of the video that had thrown the White House into damage control mode for most of the day. The White House said earlier, after the video was removed, that a staffer had posted it in error.

The video was posted late Thursday night — and remained online for nearly 12 hours — before the White House took it down amid bipartisan outrage, including from close Trump allies. The president, however, insisted Friday evening the video was taken down “as soon as we found out about it.”

“I looked at the beginning of it. It was fine,” he said, referring to the first part of the video that contained debunked claims about fraud in voting machines.

He rose to fame in 1994 after winning the Newcomer category at the 44th Sanremo Music Festival with his performance of "Il mare calmo della sera". The Opening Ceremonies of the 2026 Olympic Games mark a first with not just one, but four simultaneous events unfolding in four locations to mark what organizers call the most spread-out Olympic Games in history. The single largest of the events — a star-studded spectacular at Milan’s San Siro Stadium, dubbed the La Scala of soccer — was a postcard of resilience from Lombardy, the northern province that became a center of Italy’s tragically high pandemic death toll and not only persevered but thrived. It may also be the swan song for the vermilion beam-topped San Siro, a storied venue that is set to be torn down.

In an era of division, the Opening Ceremonies portrays a theme of “harmony,” highlighting inclusion at a moment of nativism, and international fraternity at a time of belligerence and war. It conveyed a world of mutual respect that the peace-loving nations wish for rather than the world of conflict that exists. But in its broadest sense, that's what the Olympics are about: ideals. “At a time when so much of the world is divided by conflict, your very presence demonstrates that another world is possible. One of unity, respect and harmony,” declared Giovanni Malagò, president of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics organizing committee.

The City of Milan will activate its 'Red Zones' ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, restricting access to certain areas.

These rules will apply not just to Olympic spectators, but to any tourist, business traveler and resident moving through these cities over the next 48 hours.

Where Are Milan's Olympic Red Zones? Milan's Olympic 'red zones' are not confined to the location of the opening ceremony. They are temporary security perimeters established around major Olympic infrastructure and high-traffic areas. Historic sights, businesses, and hotels within the perimeter may not be accessible. On February 5, the area around Fabbrica del Vapore becomes a high-security red zone. Authorities will close road traffic from early afternoon through late night across a wide grid of surrounding streets. They will also ban parking for up to 24 hours on many roads and restrict pedestrian access.

The most famous sight in the Fabbrica del Vapore area, the Monumental Cemetery, will be closed all day on February 5. Milan’s historic center, including Piazza del Duomo, the Royal Palace of Milan, and Piazza della Scala, will be subject to extensive traffic closures, parking bans and restrictions for pedestrians on February 6. The Duomo di Milano, the famous Milan Cathedral, will also be closed between February 4 and February 6. The Royal Palace and the Museum of the Twentieth Century will be (partially or fully) closed on February 5 and 6, according to the website of the City of Milan. Additional closures extend west toward Triennale Milano and Piazza Sempione, affecting Corso Sempione and adjacent streets. https://myshirtusa.com/
